License
Cast Iron Type end-user license
Draft — last updated 2026-09-17. This license is proprietary, not open source (not OFL). It governs use of Cast Iron Type typeface software, including Neomodette.
1. Grant of license
Purchasing a license grants a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the licensed typeface under the terms of the tier purchased. The typeface software itself is licensed, not sold — Cast Iron Type retains ownership of the font files.
2. License tiers
- Desktop — one user, unlimited personal or commercial desktop use: print, PDF, static image export, local application UI mockups. Does not cover web embedding or redistribution inside a shipped product.
- Webfont — @font-face embedding on one domain plus its subdomains, up to 10,000 monthly pageviews.
- Desktop + Web Bundle — the Desktop and Webfont tiers together under one license.
- App / Embedded — embedding the font file inside a single shipped desktop, mobile, or web application title (for example, subsetted and bundled into an app).
- Studio — Desktop-tier use for up to ten seats within a single organization.
A tier not listed above (higher-traffic webfont tiers, additional seats, additional application titles) is available on request — contact Cast Iron Type rather than assuming a tier covers a use it doesn't list.
3. What's not permitted
- Redistributing, reselling, or sublicensing the font software itself, in original or modified form, outside the scope of the purchased tier.
- Modifying and redistributing the typeface as a new or derivative font product.
- Using a Desktop license for web embedding, or a single-domain Webfont license across multiple unrelated domains.
4. Beta pricing
Typefaces sold during beta script coverage (for example, Neomodette 0.5.0's Cyrillic, Armenian, and Greek support) are priced below their projected 1.0 price. A license purchased at the beta price remains valid at no additional cost once beta scripts are finished — completion of beta coverage does not require repurchasing the license.
5. Support and updates
Licensed typefaces receive bug-fix and script-completion updates for the version line purchased. Contact [email protected] with license or usage questions.
6. Term and termination
This license remains in effect until terminated. It terminates automatically if you breach any term and fail to cure the breach within 30 days of notice from Cast Iron Type. On termination, you must stop using the font software and delete all copies in your possession or control. Sections 3, 7, and 8 survive termination.
7. Warranty disclaimer
The font software is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Cast Iron Type does not warrant that the font software will be error-free or meet your specific requirements.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cast Iron Type is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from use of the font software, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Cast Iron Type's total liability under this license is limited to the amount you paid for the license giving rise to the claim.
9. Refunds
Refund eligibility and period are stated on the product page for each typeface at the time of purchase. Absent a stated period, the default refund window is 14 days from purchase, provided the font software has not been embedded in distributed output beyond evaluation use.
10. Governing law
This license is governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Cast Iron Type is based, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
11. Changes to this license
Cast Iron Type may update these terms for future purchases. Changes do not retroactively reduce the rights granted under a license you already hold; a change that materially reduces rights applies only to licenses purchased after its effective date.
This page is a working draft of Cast Iron Type's license terms and has not yet had a legal review. Do not treat it as final until confirmed by the foundry.
